Main Lessons Learned from LTEC 6010

Journal 12: Free Topic

On the topic of what I have learned about myself, theories of instructional technology (philosophy), and my writing.

The topic of theory of instructional technology could take a lifetime and another PhD in philosophy to really dig into the way I would like. The best activity from this class was the personal learning theory. Its one thing to read, memorize, and apply theory to your writing, but another to really sort them into a meaningful framework that you can point to for why you designed or argued for an instructional approach.

Main lessons learned:

Stay positive: It’s too easy to close off the mind and seek fault for misunderstanding of concepts or inability to meet expectations of yourself and others. I have a will to get things done and set high expectations of myself to do them very well no matter what the ask. I also mind myself drawn in by and excited by every new idea and project put in front of me. Thus I am often pulled in too many directions with many projects going at the same time. I had to say no to research opportunities and partnerships this term that I would have liked to pursue. But I remain focused on my courses, the topic I am forming, and the projects I have on my plate now while respecting that either the new projects will wait for me to join in or there will be others on the horizon.

Get feedback often. No matter how well written a piece is, it needs to make sense before it flows. I saved all the feedback from this term so I can have a “cheat-sheet” to guide my future writing because everyone gave such great formative feedback.

And lastly, I have an amazing Summer Reading list of all the chapters I wasn’t able to read from the readings we were given. I wanted to read more fully than I was able with everything happening this semester. I hope to keep and find more like minded readers to keep these discussions going.
