Knowledge Utilization and Technology Transfer Theory.

How do you feel your Implementation Theory Presentation went? What did you learn from the readings you did that went into your presentation? How do you feel the presentation information conveyed to your classmates what they need to know?

The phrase “Knowledge Utilization and Technology Transfer” could easily be broken into four distinct words and presented individually, as I have learned through the research for this presentation. This is such a large concept that I had to begin by deconstructing the parts to define each term seeking a shared language. I don’t normally feel that I need to define terms when presenting to peers and other experts in our discipline, but the fact that this was my beginning point represents how I feel the research went for this presentation.

The message about this theory that I worked to convey throughout the presentation was simplification of a complex and connected model. I found it difficult to stay focused on only the knowledge utilization model when most research concurrently references both the appropriability and the dissemination models. This focus issue may have caused an overload of information on slide three where the presentation would have benefitted from better connections among the evolved models (the what) and the factors for using the theory (the how).

I am most proud of the mini-literature review I created and the limitations of the theory I included from the research. From this research and my perspective, the idea of Knowledge Utilization and Technology Transfer stemmed from the fields of Psychology and only briefly dipped into education before moving into a business tool. Education may not be as dynamic as Business, but Education is a constantly changing landscape with high yields for influencing interdisciplinary change. Therefore, a shift is due in the trajectory of future research in this field reviewing the educational approach and use of Knowledge Utilization and Technology Transfer Theory.
